NASA astronaut Sunita Williams has safely returned to Earth after an unexpected nine-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Extended Stay Due to Technical Issues
Originally scheduled for an eight-day mission, Williams' stay was prolonged due to technical problems with Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, leading to her extended presence on the ISS.
Return via SpaceX Crew Dragon
Williams, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, departed the ISS aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule. The spacecraft is scheduled to splash down off the coast of Florida at approximately 5:57 p.m. ET.
Health Monitoring Post-Mission
Upon return, Williams will undergo standard medical evaluations to assess the effects of prolonged microgravity on her health. These procedures are part of NASA's routine post-mission protocols to ensure astronaut well-being.
