Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has broadened its collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (RMAF) by introducing new variants of the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP). This development follows the initial agreement signed in late 2024 for the local production of 150 WhAP 8×8 units in Morocco.
Enhanced Production and Localization
The original contract established a facility in Casablanca under Tata Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM), a wholly-owned TASL subsidiary, to produce these vehicles. The partnership aims to deliver over 400 units in various configurations, with plans to increase local integration rates from 35% to 50%.
Development of New Variants
Building upon this foundation, TASL and the RMAF are collaborating to develop specialized variants of the WhAP to meet diverse battlefield requirements. These include medical evacuation vehicles and versions equipped with high-caliber cannons. Notably, the Moroccan variant features a larger rear door compared to the Indian model, facilitating quicker troop deployment and more efficient loading and unloading of equipment.
Strategic Implications
This expansion signifies a deepening of defense ties between India and Morocco, showcasing TASL's commitment to delivering tailored solutions for international partners. The introduction of new WhAP variants is expected to enhance the operational capabilities of the RMAF, addressing specific mission needs and contributing to regional security.
